The Casas de Taipa project resulted from the renovation and expansion of a century-old family house, located on a rustic land close to the sea.
The project combined the use of traditional technology and materials - construction in earth (“taipa”), interior reed ceilings, coverings with handmade tiles and hydraulic mosaics, whitewashing - with modern solutions that ensure the required comfort - underfloor heating (for heating and cooling), wifi connection, well equipped kitchens.
Sustainability is also a concern: rainwater collected on the roof and stored in cisterns (an old and a new one) is reused in toilets flushing and irrigation, the water is heated through solar panels and two fireplaces contribute to the heating. We minimize the use of disposable plastic containers.
On the 5 hectares of land there are fig trees (and guests can, in the summer, pick and consume figs), carob trees, almond trees and cork oaks.
Each house has, for the exclusive use of its guests, a private pool (3x3 m and 0.7 m deep) with permanently renewed and treated water and its own terrace. Towels are available for use in the pool or on the beach.
We do not have a television, but there is wifi access to the Internet, a mini sound system with Bluetooth, board and card games and books.
The kitchen of each house is fully equipped (fridge with freezer, plate stove, oven, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, electric kettle, toaster, citrus squeezer, magic wand, dishwasher, crockery and cutlery for 6 people). Each house also has a hair dryer.
There is also a laundry room, with washing machine, iron, board and clothesline, as well as a grill (barbecue) and its accessories. Both the laundry and the grill are for use by guests of both houses.
Guests can park their cars inside the property.
